Lab Tests
Lab Tests
For the convenience and comfort of our members, we have a highly trained staff on-site to draw blood and collect other samples for your diagnostic tests. No appointment is necessary. Click here for locations and hours. If you prefer, you can go to an offsite lab such as LabCorp, Quest Diagnostics, CPMC, or UCSF for your tests. Please contact them directly for their respective locations/hours.
Your health care provider will order the specific tests you need based on your age, your medications, your overall health status, and the amount of time since your last set of blood tests. Young, healthy individuals may only need blood tests every five years, while patients with active medical issues may need tests annually or even more frequently. If you are interested in having specific tests performed, please discuss them with your provider before coming in to have your blood drawn.
Results
After we receive and review your results, we will email you with our interpretation and a copy of the report as a pdf attachment. For most tests, we will get back to you within 10 days. If you haven’t heard from us within that time frame contact us. If you do not want to be notified of your results via email, then please let us know in advance.
Fasting Tests
Some tests are only accurate if you have been fasting before having your blood drawn. Your provider will tell you if you need to fast before your tests. If you are getting a Fasting Lipid Panel (FLP, a.k.a. “cholesterol test”), then you definitely need to fast. You should not eat food or drink anything besides water for a minimum of 12 hours prior to the test. You may take any of your daily medications during this time. Arriving well-hydrated will help ensure a successful collection.
STD Testing
Like all medical tests, STD tests are strictly confidential. Some tests may not be covered by your insurance plan. You may wish to confirm coverage for tests prior to testing. STD testing can also be done through the City Clinic at 356 7th St., San Francisco. Call 415-487-5500 for more information and hours. If you know you were exposed to HIV or viral hepatitis, you should speak with your physician immediately to discuss early preventive treatment options.
